Karate Budokan in Noosaville bags 43 medals at the State titles!
Karate Budokan, based in Noosaville has taken home 43 medals at the recent State Karate Championships!
36 local competitors ranging in age from 8 to 45 were selected to represent Karate Budokan at the state championships in Redbank Plains on the 23rd & 24th of May!
This is an outstanding result considering all of the other clubs from all over Queensland have a pool of separate dojos to represent them. We have our Noosaville fulltime dojo & a small part time one in Kawana.
Prior to this event Noosa had 3 national champions training and 7 Queensland champions, now the town can add 12 more state champions to the list, one of our new state champions is Sarah Wrigley 8 of Noosaville who came home from her 1st championship with 2 Gold medals! Joining Sarah with two Gold medals was Oceania champion Luke Walker of Doonan who celebrated his 15th birthday by winning his first state title.
The chief instructor & tournament coach is Wayne MacDonald a former multiple World, National & State champion. He is assisted by his wife & program director Donna Sutor & Head instructor Rick Hislop. The three attribute the success of the Noosa club to the success breeds success formula. The aspiring athletes are so motivated by the success of their peers & senseis at previous events that they train as hard as possible beside them in the desire to one day achieve a small taste of success. The work ethic of our athletes is very encouraging; the club has an educational policy that schoolwork always comes first & many of these young athletes are juggling schoolwork & homework, receiving great grades & still training in excess of 6 hours per week.
One of the wonderful qualities that martial arts instill is the importance of goal setting & perseverance. This training mindset will help our leaders of the future to be prepared to dig deep when the going is not always easy. The next step ahead for our talented athletes is to step up from State champions to Australian Champions in Adelaide in August.
If anyone is interested in sponsoring these young athletes please email shihan@karatebudokan.com.au
